When to Pull Over Immediately

  • Temperature gauge in the red zone (stop before engine seizes)
  • Oil pressure warning light on (pull over and shut off immediately)
  • Smoke or fire coming from the engine or exhaust
  • Brakes feel soft, go to the floor, or grind loudly
  • Steering wheel shakes violently or pulls hard to one side
  • Strange loud noises from under the hood or wheels
  • Airbag or ABS warning lights flashing
  • Smell of gasoline (pull over and call for help — do not restart)

🔔 Safety First

If you must stop on the side of the road: pull as far onto the shoulder as possible, turn on hazards, exit on the side away from traffic, and stay visible. Set up road flares or reflective triangles if you have them.
